A systems engineer serves as a technical lead across multiple engineering disciplines to design, develop, and integrate hardware, software, man-machine interfaces and all system level requirements to provide an integrated system solution. The principal systems engineer provides technical leadership on major tasks or projects where decision making and domain knowledge may have a critical impact on overall project implementation.
- Establishes goals and plans that meet project technical objectives
- Directs and controls activities for a client or within the business
- Has overall responsibility for technical management and methods to ensure that technical requirements/goals are met
- Interactions involve working directly with client and senior management
- Develops integrated system test, verification, and validation requirements and strategies
- Directs overall system-level design, implementation, integration, testing, and operations
- Works directly with customers and supporting subject matter experts to ensure requirements, operational concepts, and systems objectives are captured and met as intended
- Leads system-level trades and analysis activities including modeling and simulation to predict expected system performance and determine solutions which will meet project objectives balancing cost, schedule, and performance
- Usually leads a diverse team of engineers
- Bachelor's degree in aerospace or relevant field
- At least 16 years of direct aerospace experience
- Has domain and expert technical or other relevant knowledge
- Has led multi-disciplinary teams of spacecraft engineers
- Can work independently and as part of a team of his/her peers
- Has experience setting and performing to technical milestone entrance/exit criteria
- Has performed analysis of designs against industry environment and test standards (e.g., NASA GEVS)
- Has developed summary technical progress reports for end customers and company personnel
- Comfortable presenting to diverse audiences including technical and non-technical experts and peers
The ideal candidate should have the following experience:
- Directly working on multiple spacecraft programs performing system design and/or testing
- In-depth experience in at least three (3) or more spacecraft subsystems
