Principal Project Manager
Description

A project manager leads a diverse team of engineers and support personnel on projects, overseeing all aspects of project execution including developing project plans, schedules, and budgets. He/she analyzes new and complex project-related problems and creates innovative solutions involving finance, scheduling, technology, methodology, tools, subcontracts, and solution components. The principal project manager provides management leadership on major tasks or projects where decision making and domain knowledge may have a critical impact on overall project success.

Responsibilities
  • Establishes goals and plans that meet project programmatic (and often technical) objectives
  • Directs and controls activities for a client or within the business
  • Has overall responsibility for programmatic (and often technical) management and methods to ensure that programmatic (cost/schedule/technical) requirements/goals are met
  • Interactions involve working directly with client and senior management
  • Organizes, directs, and manages contract operation support functions including security, information technology, cost and schedule controls, risk and opportunity management, and subcontract management
  • Works directly with customer at the senior level to ensure project objectives are being met
  • Meets with customer and contractor personnel to formulate and review task plans and deliverable items
  • Usually leads a diverse team of engineers and other support personnel (contracts, security, IT/IA, etc.)
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace or relevant field
  • At least 16 years of direct aerospace experience
  • Has domain and expert technical or other relevant knowledge
  • Has led multi-disciplinary teams of spacecraft engineers
  • Can work independently and as part of a team of his/her peers
  • Has experience setting and performing to programmatic milestone entrance/exit criteria
  • Has developed summary programmatic progress reports for end customers and company personnel
  • Comfortable presenting to diverse audiences including technical and non-technical experts and peers
  • Has experience with EVM, Agile, and other streamlined program management principals and techniques
Preferred Experience

The ideal candidate should have the following experience:

  • Directly working on multiple spacecraft programs performing system design and/or testing
  • In-depth experience in at least three (3) or more spacecraft subsystems
  • Specific experience with FAR/DFAR and financial management
